“Inclusive”, “engaging” and “collectible” are all ideal qualities for art to hold. For this reason, Maddox Gallery is very excited to host the Art on a Postcard Secret Auction next month. Not least because some of our favourite resident artists are participating!
400 postcard-sized artworks will be sold at auction on the 17th November to raise money for Art on A Postcard, the fundraising arm of The Hepatitis C Trust. The charity is working towards the elimination of hepatitis C as a major public health concern in the UK by 2030.
To support these efforts, works have been created by international names such as Grayson Perry, Maggie Hambling, Oliver Jeffers, Peter Blake, Harland Miller, Gilbert & George.
A host of Royal Academicians are also participating, including Ken Howard RA, Mick Rooney RA, John Wragg RA, Rebecca Salter RA, Paul Huxley RA and Steven Farthing RA.
On top of this, several emerging artists represented by Maddox Gallery will also participate. Bradley Theodore, Dan Baldwin, Dean Fox, Robi Walters, Chris Moon, Lincoln Townley, Finn Stone and Kris Cieslak are all set to complement the collection with some unique pieces.
Gemma Peppe, Director of Art on A Postcard, hand-picked each artist participating in the project. She claims that these works, though small in size, carry enormous significance.
“We were conscious to create something that was truly inclusive and engaging,” she explains, “but that also was true to our current economic and political landscape.”
“Postcard sized artwork does just that.”
“Small works of art are a symbol of the austerity we have been living through, economical for our artists to make and our audience to buy, perfectly sized to fit easily onto the wall of a London apartment, and if none of the above, great, collectible, artworks in their own merit.”
Bidders will be able to view the artworks online from the 27th October, and in person during a one-week exhibition opening at Maddox Gallery on the 10th November. There will also be a private viewing on the evening of the 14th November.
The charity fundraiser will be open to a global audience, as Art on a Postcard has partnered with The Auction Room to run a live webcast auction. This will make it possible for any art lovers to watch the auction live and place bids online on the 17th November.
The Art on a Postcard Secret Auction collection will open for public viewing on the 10th November, at Maddox Gallery, 9 Maddox Street, Mayfair, London, W1S 2QE. Make a date to visit our gallery, and see these fantastic works for yourself before the auction.
